Sheep Hunt 2025

Planning a sheep hunt requires careful gear selection. Every item you carry into the mountains needs to balance durability, weight, and reliability because once you're deep into the backcountry, there is no easy way to replace forgotten or failing equipment.

This sheep hunting gear list is built from real experience during our backcountry hunts. Instead of chasing brand hype or the latest gear trends, the goal is to focus on equipment that actually performs when you're living out of a pack for multiple days in mountain terrain.

Below is the gear system we use for backcountry sheep hunts and remote mountain trips.

Clothing System

Your clothing system is one of the most important parts of a successful sheep hunt. Mountain weather can change quickly, and the ability to regulate body temperature while climbing, glassing, and moving through terrain is critical.

Our layering system focuses on breathable base layers, lightweight insulation, and durable outer shells that can handle wind and sudden weather changes.

Pack System

Your backpack becomes your entire camp during a sheep hunt. It needs to be comfortable under heavy loads while still allowing you to move efficiently through steep terrain.

A good pack system should handle:

  • multi-day gear loads

  • meat hauling

  • durability in rough terrain

Shelter System

A reliable shelter is critical during mountain hunts. Weather conditions can change quickly and storms can roll in unexpectedly.

Lightweight shelters that balance durability and pack weight are key for extended hunts where every ounce matters.

Sleep System

Recovery matters on long hunts. A quality sleep system allows you to recover from long days climbing and glassing so you can stay effective throughout the hunt.

Key components include:

  • sleeping bag

  • sleeping pad

  • ground sheet

Cooking & Food System

Backcountry cooking systems need to be simple, reliable, and efficient—but they’re only one part of the equation.

Your stove and fuel setup support your food system, and in the mountains, food isn’t just calories—it’s recovery and morale.

When you dial in both together, your setup becomes more efficient and better suited for long days in the field.
